Nationwide was going with their “Life Comes at you Fast” campaign for years. I was tasked with creating a YouTube pre-roll campaign utilizing existing TV spots. However, we thought a more creative approach would be to create contextually relevant content for people browsing DIY videos on YouTube as a misdirect, and hopefully hold people’s attention for longer than a “skip ad”. The results were incredibly funny and so successful that Nationwide decided to expand the concept to TV and many more commercials were shot based on this “simple pre-roll” idea.
